Re: the menu placement. english people read left to right, top to bottom on a downward slant from the top left of their screen, therefore the last place they will look on a website (by my guess), and the place you want your most important content is somewhere below center and off to the right. On my 19" screen, I did not immediately spot the menu, but (obviously) it was visible to me. What I am trying to say is that because people are used to having a menu on the rhs or top of the screen, like idg's pages, that is where they will most probably look for a menu on a new site. What you are trying to achieve with your site should dictate the level of freedom, to some extent, you have to manipulate the elements of your site. A traditional site attempting to attract a broad range of people, like idg or pressF1 for example, should probably not try any radical stuff, however a site such as your own that is more of a media/design type of site is open to more interesting styles. Its really up to the designer I suppose, but there is only so far you can move from the norm before it becomes a difficult site to browse. |

2002-11-22 03:42:00 | i know wot you mean, but i want my site to be different, cuz yes its all media/design. like my text is pixelated. yes, it may be harder to read, but its "different" and immediatly (shood) make u think of computers/graphics (some ppl are reminded of ataris...) anyway, the thing is, heres a scenario. someone goes onto my site. they read the page. they want to go to a different section, they move to the left. there is no bar. now, they cood do two possible things: a) realise if its not on the left, its on the right, find it and click it b) think theres no menu and leave the person on b "didnt think" and on my website i want ppl to think, because i have photoshop galleries and all sorts. so i have no problem with "person b" leaving. i dont want some nothinker looking at my photoshop work and going "yellow sky? thats not right...terrible art" so yeah... :) i appreciate the whole thing about being on the right, but looking at it from both sides i must say i am NOT moving it. i cood move it very easily because all i'd change is the frameset and do some "reverse" in PSP, i woodnt have to change any of the content. but no...i'd rather not because im sick of "traditional" sites. u know wot i am so sick of seeing? bright blue links...that go purple when u've been to them. they are so... "internet" that its horrible. are you with me? thxn for all ur comments so far they r great :D

2002-11-22 03:43:00 | The reference to "were you a cute liddle puppy in a past life" was to the pleading look (you?) posed in the new photo you put on the front of your site . . I'm not quite sure what you read into it, but no, the comment wasn't intended in the way you seem to have taken it . Be "scared" if you like, but despite the difference of species, it has remarkible resemblence to the nature of the "wanting something" looks my overage puppy has spent her life mastering . A rather poor example of this can be seen here ( . orcon . net . nz/f1/images/Dyan+Pugwash-04 . jpg" target="_blank">something . orcon . net . nz) (no it's not me in the pic with her . )

2002-11-22 04:16:00 | It doesn't worry me whether your index is on the left or right but I don't like not knowing what page I'm on. There's nothing (or at least nothing obvious) that gives any indication whether I am on the Files page or Links page or even still on the Portfolio page. You could consider doing something about that. | Susan B (19) | |

2002-11-22 10:20:00 | Well, I was going to comment dude, we're 2 different planets apart. Your attitude towards visitors suck. You are effectively alienating (scuse the pun) yourself from prospective clients, which I presume is a purpose of your site, by restricting content to certain browsers and by only catering to 'intelligent' viewers. Lemme tell you something. If a visitor cannot find what they are looking for, or anything interesting on your site within 10 seconds, they will leave. It's a fact. I went to your sight. I saw photos of you and your dog. I was not impressed and left. Lemme tell you something else. Managers are business people. So will your prospective clients. They know time is money. They won't spend either easily. Sorry for being so 'snarky' but, well, you wanted honest comments. SiK
