| 100453 | 2002-11-24 07:16:00 | SoniKalien, Here (pressf1.co.nz) is the thread where you tell us: " Anyone got any comments about Orcon as an ISP. I just signed up (and am now connected) but haven't paid anything yet so I guess I'm sorta taking it for a test drive.." I don't think it could be considered accidental to have "just signed up" for a "test drive", and really when you "try" a service, i think it is resonable to expect to pay for it too while you do. .Clueless |

| 100454 | 2002-11-24 09:03:00 | Up to a 'point' I agree with SoniKalien !!!!!! Been there done that with an Orcon 'affiliate' when trying to check if a "name/alias" was available - it was NOT a clean matter to clear up - debit card billing kept mysteriously REappearing from time to time ! Also with another Orcon 'affiliate' when I teminated the account stating it was because of THEIR faliure to fulfill THEIR service claims I forgot to remove them from my e-mail client and inadvertantly downloaded e-mail from that mailbox along with all my other accounts elsewhere - surprise surprise THEY had deliberately put a virus-infected e-mail into that mailbox !!!!!!! and got nasty when I returned it to them ! Personally I wouldn't EVER go near an Orcon company ever again ! |

If not i think it is a little strong to say that a viris in your mail box was personal. Shite happens, so do viri. The only difference is that viri are much worse. .Clueless |

Been there done that with >an Orcon 'affiliate' when trying to check if a "name/alias" was available >it was NOT a clean matter to clear up - debit card billing kept >mysteriously REappearing from time to time ! Hey there! Jay here again I am very curious about what has happened - The only "affiliate" that I am aware of is Hypernet (We are in the process of merging them in) In addition to us being a retail ISP, we also manage the networks to around 40% of the ISPs in NZ, and in quite a few cases supply access to our billing and customer management software also. As I am sure you can appreciate, it is certainly not a wholesalers place to comment on the manner that a customer uses their products (an analogy I am thinking of is Microsoft getting heat because an offensive letter was written using MS Word) We also have quite strict ethic and non-disclosure rules about any ISPs we do or dont supply services to, and as such I would never comment on whether or not the ISP is going through us. - Either way it would be pretty inappropriate for me to comment on another companies service or the way that they handle procedures etc. certainly in a public forum ; ) It would probably be best to give me a call and we can sort out what the story was, I would be mortified and very surprised that it was actually one of our team (I know ; ) *bound* to say that). >THEY had deliberately put a virus-infected e-mail into that mailbox I am pretty sure that any ISP that I know of in NZ (both ones that we work with and others in general) would find this sort of thing pretty abhorrent, and I would be more inclined to believe at worst this would be an unfortunate mistake If you forward the email through as an attachment I can check the headers to see where it came from Kindest Regards Jay Best Orcon Internet - Residential Products Manager (09) 444 4414 |

| 100459 | 2002-11-24 21:27:00 | SiK, Som eof the analogies used here are rather true. I would try my own.. but I've been known to suck at that, but basically, you used the service, you have an account with them and so at some stage agreed to some type of T&C's. Sounds to me like Orcon are a pretty top-quality company with good customer relations. I might sign-up myself... Free Webspace and all, plus my parents have been thinking about switching ISP's and perhaps going Broadband, and I've only heard good about these guys, except maybe this thread... If I sign-up for the free stuff, I'll see what T&C's I come up with and what it says about dial-in for me using the "Free" service, without dial-up access. If I was you, It's only $29, and if you're lucky they might let you finish your month off with them! They have from I've seen been only co-operative with you, encouraging negotiations, and you used their service when you had no rights. I'm not gonna walk into the house across the street and use their phone if the front door happens to be open, "Just to see how far I can go". I'd be thrown in prison (But I'm too young, so something else maybe, but you get this picture). Play fair, they seem to be a great company.
