I'll agree there. Its a home user version of CA InoculateIT, which is bloody good. Only problem with it is learning how to configure the latest version to actually alert you to having a virus come through, rather than just curing it/deleting it without notification. Other than that, 100% sucess rate here with detection, even with Bugbear.

Same here, On 4 machines within 24 hours (All mine...) Not to mention friends and co-workers who had norton, but all ditched it due to the fact that it missed it (Mind you my father now has AVG and Norton "Just to be Safe"). When first downloading AVG after suspecting something, the update that included the BugBear signature was available, and it took only another 2 hours before the Whole downloadable EXE file included scanning for bugbear.

For me, this was a major, as there was a lot of confidential stuf fon most of the PC's at home, fathers work, and what was 2 part-time jobs then.

Even IDG was hit by the BugBear, simply because the Symantec update was put out a few hours too late ( I think this is correct, its in the Xtra Archives somewhere - they did an interview on Karl Martin ).

AVG, for me is best coz I dont have the spare dosh to fork out to an Anti-Virus Vendor. Free.net.nz had a slogan.... "The best things in life, are Free!" and that maybe true here too...

Personal preference maybe, but that's my two cents worth on the topic.

Cheers

Bugbear will get thru any virus scanner in its initiall stages. The thing has to be discovered before a cure can be formulated.

I use NAV (thanks IDG) but was a happy AVG until I had a spot of good luck!

*Hefty Laugh* Yes, I wholeheartedly agree . To update it, double click on the icon in the system tray and click on the update tab .
I dont care if its ugly, I'm not gonna go parading my AV solution to my friends, nor will Susan B be asking for a pic of it in a weekend project ;)
It does the job, and well . Scans quickly enough ( Almost 20Gig in about 11 Minutes) .

What's this weekends project going to be anyway :p :D ;)

Notron managed to stop Bugbear from a friend's email :D .. But I'm using NAV 2003 so that could be why it didn't slip thru :)

100289 2002-11-21 23:51:00 Bugbear got passed nortons because it took them longer to update their virus definitions than it did for it to be released.
So to say this is a problem with Nortons is incorrect. Rather a symmantec problem been slow to update. and we are talking slow by a couple of hours here.

Ugly does make a differnce to programme use, so it is a con. For example you expect File to be on the left and Help to be on the right. Common standards may not be followed hence making it ugly. This would result in it been harder to use.
I don't use AVG so i don't know if this is the case. But Uglyness is definately a con to any software
