Quite frequently the interrogators would hear everything they wished to know before the oil even reached the critical temperature for truth production. If they then continued, what was most likely to be produced were those wondrous stress-induced outbursts commonly referred to as "home truths". The effect is not dissimilar to that which used to be produced while waiting outside the Headmaster's office in the company of your co-offenders while he limbered up inside in preparation for the administration of correctional therapy.
