100826 2002-11-23 05:31:00 The Volume of the dialing when you connect is not working, the dialup is working but just not getting the dialling tone as it dials up. I have looked in - Control Panel - Phone & Modem - Modem - and the volume is on for the modem, is there anywhere else to look??? Using XP pro. Apart from that the volume is working everywhere else. Thanks in advance. J ZEP (336)
100827 2002-11-23 05:58:00 hi,

I have the same problem except in reverse, I cannot turn the dialing sound off. XP pro also.

100828 2002-11-23 06:13:00 What sort of Modem do you use?

Download the latest drivers for your modem.

100829 2002-11-23 06:15:00 See the first post... Go there and drag the slider to the right.

If that doesn't work try getting updated drivers.

100830 2002-11-23 06:25:00 Go to Start/Control panels/ Network connections
Right click the ISP icon and select Properties
Under the modem name select Configure
Tick the box "Enable modem speaker"
OK all the way out.

100831 2002-11-23 23:13:00 Thanks guys, still no go - its a Generic SoftK56, but apparently so I have just been told, these have a tendency to do this and changing drivers seems to cause disconnecting frequently - so i guess its a trade off, no modem sound for a steady connection. Actually now i am getting used to it its not so bad, I guess its just habit in expecting the dial up - da da di da - LOL. Thanks Jim and Elephant :-) J ZEP (336)
100832 2002-11-24 01:55:00 The following will silence a modem for Windows 98, could be similar for XP
Control Panel
Open modems
Select general tab
Cick on properties
Turn down speaker volume slider to off position
Now select connection tab
Click on advanced
In the extra settings type this, m0
OK
OK
Close

Good luck
