1296618 2012-08-24 06:31:00 Hey all :)

Next Friday My Brother and I are going to America for 3 weeks, anyway i just checked out the Vodafone roaming charges, and the phones call rates are enough to make you sit down, but then i saw the Data rates and it's $10.00 per MB, that's a RIP-OFF, Cos i'm using my iPhone as my GPS, and then checking email, and other normal iPhone usage, i could end up with a $2000.00 bill if not more

So anyway i'm thinking i may buy a cheap phone in NZ before I leave and get my number transferred to an normal Sim card (cos a mini Sim wont fit a normal phone), and get a Sim card in America.

So i'm wondering if anyone here know of a good pre-paid plan etc for my iPhone??

cheers
Aaron

1296619 2012-08-24 06:48:00 Just get a local micro sim for your iphone in america. sam m (517)
1296620 2012-08-24 07:04:00 yep that's cool, but what is a good company/plan?? it would be for a few local American phone calls, but it's mainly data, I would probably need 100-150 MB. cos the Vodafone Data Roaming price is $10 / MB.

cheers

1296621 2012-08-24 07:33:00 AT&T is a pretty well known one in the USA. The iphone gets sold with them. stratex5 (16685)
1296622 2012-08-24 08:11:00 Just make you buy a SIM that will let you call and TXT international. By brother-in-law who is still over there tried to save some money , bought a local SIM only to discover a few days later no one outside the US could call him or text him and visa versa.. paulw (1826)
1296623 2012-08-24 08:29:00 Agree a local SIM is best by far. Telecom's international rates are HUGE. AT&T use the same 850MHz WCDMA band as telecom here. Go in and talk to one of their staff members about your situation. They know their plans and will hook you up with a nice deal. T Mobile is another provider. Sprint is CDMA as is verizon (I think) so they won't work with your phone. The Error Guy (14052)
1296624 2012-08-24 08:44:00 Yup - get a simcard at the airport on arrival .

Just checked 2 Degrees roaming is $30/MB for the places that Vodafone is $10 .

1296625 2012-08-24 08:45:00 Well I'm with Vodafone, but i guess i could go into Telecom and ask if they know :) and i'm not too worrried about calling and txting international, cos i will still have my 2 degrees work phone, and also my current iPhone number which i will switch to another phone while I am in America.

I also see in America they have 4G, will my iPhone 4 work on that??
