1296870	2012-08-27 06:57:00	No Apple devices in our house and not likely to be, we have other brands that work for us without the major price hikes that buying Apple would involve. Also I happen to like black components, white looks like it should be in the ER department. I build my own computers and I can choose if I want to use Windows or Linux if I bought Apple I wouldn't have those choices and I refuse to use iTunes as they promote crap quality MP3 which is useless I have a lot of CD's and never hear the end of what an old fogey I am for still buying them. However - MPs quality is pretty good - for the day to day purposes of portable audio (Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone in my case) you'd be hard pressed to pick it from any other format. 1296871	2012-08-27 07:26:00	It depends if you find the alternatives "great" or not doesn't it. Funny in a way thats mentioned. I was at a customers place today fixing a PC and extending their wireless coverage, she was saying they have 1 iPad and 2 lenovo tablets . I asked a simple question- how do you find them as a comparison, and what do you think is better. The answer was the ipad is Ok for doing basic stuff, but if you want to do more serious work, then the lenovo's will beat the iPad hands down. At the School that her kids go to, from a certain level up, its compulsory to have a tablet, as most of their work is now done online, and they found tablets easier than Laptops. The lady is on the school committee, and they tested both iPads, and lenovo Tablets, and recommended the lenovo after doing lots of trials. She was saying that some parents wanted the Ipads and felt quite strong about it, and when asked why they couldn't answer except to say - "oh its an Apple" - in other words the false halo effect, and couldn't really say why it was meant to be better. She also said many times the students who did have iPads couldn't do some of the work, as iPads simply couldn't do it. It was also mentioned that most of the students who did have iPads, ended up getting the lenovos as well, so they could actually do the work that was required. I've heard similar comments from many iPad users who have had them since they first came out, some things an Ipad simply cant do.	wainuitech (129)

Their managed to introduce internal samsung emails as evidence stating things that should be copied off apple and did it. Samsung were warned by google back in 2010 to change these things. 1296875	2012-08-27 08:03:00	Totally agree Wainui, I would never attempt to do something on the iPad that was more suited to a computer. But 90% of what I do at home the iPad is more then capable of while sitting on the couch 2x. When I needed to do work, I took my Win7 laptop overseas so I could use MS Office/Visio/Project. Get my email from Outlook etc. I couldn't be bothered photoshopping images on holiday so will never take but if I had to, would take the same or a Macbook Air mainly for its compactness. Netbook's keyboard are too small. One trip I had my laptop's charger in my checked luggage and the laptop as carry-on. At the last minute, I took it out and gave it to family to return home. Now that I finished my studies. 90-95% of my stuff could be easily met by any tablets. I cannot remember the last time I fired up a wordprocessor on the laptop. At the moment, I won't get any tablets b/c I already have a laptop so it doesn't just sit on the shelf. If I didn't have a laptop, it's likely I get a tablet mainly for home use. Won't take it overseas b/c it's one extra item to carry/look after and also I need to take the charger which all adds up. I mainly travel by myself so can live without it and I go for short trips, hence I won't be needing it to research the web and purchase on-going flights and accommodation. Skype is so much easier on the cellphone. Just like a telephone. Still prefer a paperback novel or a real magazine thou, bought at the airport and when completed left at he seats for other travellers so it could travel the world too.	Nomad (952)

Nope - what she told me was the tablets are smaller, lighter, easier to carry about and the Lenovos all come with a clip on keyboard, that turns them into basically a laptop. Sure the iPads have the same sort of add-ons, but over all the tablets are proving to be far more productive and easier to use. What I wrote came from her words, they have done a truck load of testing and tablets won over laptops in most cases for the work that's being done. One company I do work for, they have both iPads and laptops. They use the iPads for doing displays with their customers , but when doing "paperwork", they use the laptops back at the office. At the end of the day, both have their uses, both have good and bad points. Will be interesting when W8 Tablets come out, esp if they have the touch screen apps, and the desktop underneath.
