Generally for my own backups, I actually use Windows Home Server, which is scheduled to run daily, But I also do a manual full backup to another server every couple of weeks using Active@, never used the schedule, so curiosity just got the better of me :D --- Just downloaded and installed the pro Trial on this W8 PC, set a scheduled backup for 6.35pm, then a incremental for 7.00 pm.

.So the scheduled backup would be a full backup?. Then the incremental is a backup of anything that has changed in the full backup?. I find this very confusing.

1322148 2013-01-10 22:36:00 Wainuitech, If you get time I could do with some more guidance. I am sorry to be such a pain but I'm getting there.

I did an initial full backup to my external HDD "E" where it shows as "DiskImage"

I am now trying to do a scheduled Incremental backup.

I go to "Disk to Image' and select "Incremental Backup" where is asks for a file name.? The Browse option just takes me to Documents which doesn't help.

I have read the site instructions but am no further ahead. I am sure it will be easy once I know what I am doing.

at 6pm when the scheduled backup should run.

1322150 2013-01-11 03:13:00 I use Acronis Home 11 and Acronis Echo 8. I never do incremental backups because they consist of multiple files linked to the original. There is more chance of an error when restoring. I always do a full backup. Keep your system partition small and it will only take a few minutes. When backing up the 'C' drive remember to also include the 100mb hidden boot partition (W7). In some custom installations this small partition doesn't exist. mzee (3324)

I am not sure about the 100mb hidden boot partition. That is beyong my competence. I would hope this programme takes care of that. Pato (2463)

Heard of many horror stories when Acronis appears to have backed up, but when needed you find its actually corrupted and useless.

With Active @, as long as you put a tick in the drive box, and the 100MB and any other Partitions have been ticked then it will backup all partitions.

MANY people dont actually test their backups - what you should do is have a spare HDD, and every so often test the backups to make sure they have worked as expected - no point if they are only taking up space and corrupted.
Only had Active@ Fail once, but to be honest that was more with me "fiddling" than the programs fault.

1322153 2013-01-11 07:48:00 With your help the scheduled backup worked ok. I just need to become more familiar with the program now. Thanks for tip, but how do I test the backup with another HDD.
Guess it is easy when you know how eh?.

1322154 2013-01-11 18:31:00 installnthe backupmto an empty drive, you will need to boot from the rescue disc you made for this and then see if the new no longer empty disc will boot. if it does then your backup has worked gary67 (56)
