Which some games need. But if you install them, some apps didn't work (ie: The camera app, and the video app (according to some sites). But besides that it was fine. I still had a menu (c/o Classicshell). And it was pretty straightforward after that (after killing the 1st screen), and putting my username / password in, so I wouldn't have to do it everytime I rebooted |

| 1321448 | 2013-01-09 22:42:00 | It's pointless to debate on this topic: Win7 vs Win8. Let the public end-users decide which OS they prefer. If he/she likes the new Win8, that's fine; otherwise, just stay where you are. That's perfectly OK, too. By now, there are plenty of information available on the Net re the pros and cons about this new OS (not so new now). When it comes to a time where only 1 OS is available (to run their applications), what options have they got? But that's a long way to go, not too worry about it, at least for another 5 years or much longer! Sales figures will speak for themselves. Slight problem with those comments -- general public buy from the like of toaster shops -- they are now generally only selling windows 8 computers, so there isn't a choice. Re speedys [post -- Thats ati problem if they don't keep up. Never personally had any problems with NVidia drivers. I attached a web cam to mine the other day, W8 installed the drivers correctly by its self, and the cam app works perfectly, the cam itself is better on W8 than on W7. Only real problems I've seen with W8 is name brand PC's, they load in so much crap its not funny. Had a new one the other day talk about a dog of a PC, wiped the drive after making the recovery DVD's, loaded in W8 without all the crap software that HP installed, and of course didn't put back the Norton or other "trial ware" rubbish - Totally different machine, lightning fast and running a lot better. Any other problems have been due to under powered PC's that actually struggle with W7 as well. |

| 1321449 | 2013-01-10 03:30:00 | Well I'm back. After a week of abusing Win8 I finally have a running computer and Win 8 has gone where all evil rubish belongs. The solution. On my third try with Paragon Disk Manager I managed to get ny computer to start. Then in desperation I stuck the Win 7 disk in and it offered to install itself. When we got to the "where do you want me" page I saw I now had four patitions occupying almost the whole page. I told them all where to go and I finally found myself with 500 gigs of empty space. My C: drive is two Vertex SSDs in RAID 0. The strange thing was that RAID was still intact. From there it was a straightforward re-install. I solemly promise never to look at Win8 again. Jack |

| 1321450 | 2013-01-10 04:10:00 | When I installed Win8 to my new SSD, I disconnected all my other HDDs just in case Win 8 should mess up my data disk. But when I re-connected my other HDDs, Win8 couldn't even detect them (BIOS detected OK). I had to restart the machine several times just to get Win 8 to recognise my other HDDs. Googled found some other similar cases. | bk T (215) | ||
| 1321451 | 2013-01-10 04:11:00 | One problem you had from the start was using Paragon -- even their latest version 12 has only JUST become compatible with windows 8. So if using an earlier version of 12 or before thats why it didn't work. So maybe its time you wrote to paragon and asked why they have not kept up with the latest developments sooner ? Its quite funny really , theres FREE partition software about and its been compatible ever since W8 preview came out ;) |

Googled found some other similar cases. Know why ?? I'll tell ya, its the way W8 builds the disk storage, its different to previous versions. But of course every one knows you can add drives and do multi operations. It can also work like the WHS drive extender -- google it. BTW- W7 cant do it ;) |

| 1321453 | 2013-01-10 19:02:00 | Yup I know its there prob. Its probably because some of their drivers are for legacy cards. Mine included. And theyre pretty basic for Windows 8 (might as well use Windows drivers). Not that I play / install any games on this anyway. I use the Xbox for most of them Decided to go back to win7 now anyway for the time being. Might install Win8 on another partition sometime. I had to get another cam the HD3000, because the one I had on Win7 wasnt compatible with Win8 (the VX-3000). Might chuck the VX-3000 on the other computer here. Aomei Pro was free last week, but the offer is closed now |

But it's already too late, you've bought the software and cannot be returned! Of course, if you are lucky, everything works as expected and you have some new faces when the computer fires up - that's great! |

Tell ya what, Windows 8 is the easiest version of Windows to reinstall so far, I did it just the other day and I only had to install drivers for the (old) webcam and the capture card, everything else including the networked printer just worked :D |

| 1321456 | 2013-01-10 21:21:00 | Any problems I've encounted have been driver issues. Thats the way its been with every New OS no matter what it is, the manufactures dont or are slow on the uptake to make or alter their drivers to suit the new software. Windows 7 has been the same, so has 64bit -- but slowly things came together and now most things work with W7. W8 will be exactly the same. Seen it hundreds of times, many people expect a new OS to work 100% right from the start -- there is NO OS anywhere that happens, because if there was there wouldn't be updates - and every OS has updates. As for w8's layout --- MS did say early on it would be different, and true to their word it is. I know many people that like W8 , say its better once you get used to how things now work. Simply put people dont like change, give it a few years and when looking back people will wonder what all the fuss was about. Classic example of that is Vista /W7 When Vista arrived many hated the different layout because it was different to XP, but by the time W7 came along alls well and W7 is the bee knees - yet W7 and Vista layouts are almost the same. |
