| 1297230 | 2012-08-29 00:34:00 | Maybe because our house is only a few years old, I am getting an unrepresentative experience. There are rails as you say, but there is not much likelihood of anyone hitting their head on them because of where they are placed in our garage. The thing that annoyed me about the old tilt-a-door was the lever/spring mechanism on either side of the door that stuck out into the garage door opening (as well as the problem with the trusses getting in the way of a sensible installation of the garage door opener). Both my wife and I on separate occasions got our hand or arm caught by the lever that was beside the door switch on the garage wall, and whilst no injury was done (the cut off mechanism worked) we both got a hell of a fright. There is no apparent way that can happen with our sectional door. You are right about the door mechanism taking up potential space for storage in the ceiling of the garage. However, our garage has a false ceiling and therefore no visible trusses, so for that reason I cannot see a way of using the garage for storage in the way in which I used to use the trusses in the old "Skyline" type garage. In our case the problem is the design of the garage not the door opener (unless I tear out the false ceiling!). |

Roller doors on the other hand only take up a small amount of room above the opening and leave the roof space available to be used for storage etc (plus no rails to hit your head on, I'm 197cm tall). Sectional door don't protrude in front of the shed when opening and the paint work doesn't get damaged. |
