Active @ doesn't require W7 backup, so it should be fine ( famous last words) ;)It appears it has installed ok. Presume I start with "Disk to Image"?
Any tips on the best way to do the backup?. I will be backing up to an external HDD. Guess I had better read up on it before I rush in eh?. Thanks for your help.

1322137 2013-01-09 08:49:00 Just watching something on TV, but I can do a screen by screen instructions soon -- Its easy, once you done it the first time.

Stay tuned :)

1322138 2013-01-09 09:28:00 Ok this took longer to do the screen shots than it would to do :)

Open the program, Disk to image, select full backup for 1st time:

4654

Select the disk so all boxes are ticked other wise you may miss data:
You'll notice I have a external drive attached, this is the backup location, leave it blank.

4656

Under the backup Name call it what ever you like, or leave as default, if the next button is grayed out change the name, I normally remove the "e" and put it back, next will then appear.

Under location, browse to your backup drive ( if its not already selected) and select it.

4657

Select the compression or leave as default:

4658

Click next to proceed

4659

Next page you can confirm the details then just click Next

Sit back and watch it, or go have a cuppa, ignore the time it says at first it will take, its normally a lot faster once it gets going.

Just a bit more info: You can do different image backups on the one external drive, just create a folder, call it something, and when selecting the location, instead of the drive, select a folder on the drive.

1322139 2013-01-09 19:10:00 Do not forget to make a boot disk as Wainui advised you earlier. Really easy to do and use and you just may need it. CliveM (6007)

1322141 2013-01-10 03:29:00 Wainuitech, I sure appreciate you going to so much trouble, it made it really easy to set it up without loosing what little hair I have left.
I think I will need to purchase the full copy to test the Scheduling of backups. What do you recommend?. Now that I have an Image, I guess
I would just need to do Incremental backups once a week or so. This is where I came unstuck with Acronis, I could never get it to do
automatic backups and I had to do them manually.

1322142 2013-01-10 06:27:00 No worries about the Pics, saves having to write out a lot of guff, and causing confusion. :)

Generally for my own backups, I actually use Windows Home Server, which is scheduled to run daily, But I also do a manual full backup to another server every couple of weeks using Active@, never used the schedule, so curiosity just got the better of me :D --- Just downloaded and installed the pro Trial on this W8 PC, set a scheduled backup for 6.35pm, then a incremental for 7.00 pm.

Had to look if was doing it, as there was no sign ( windows open etc) but the activity light was going nuts. Checked the backup location, and yep -- Done it perfectly.

I'd suggest you try it yourself, set a schedule (S) to back up to your External Drive --its gives you 21 days to try it.

Just a suggestion -- when setting the schedules, when you get to the window " Set account Information" ( Right after the schedule day/time window) tick the "Use Local System Account" check box.

1322143 2013-01-10 07:07:00 It's ok doing Incremental but they will still quite quickly fill a drive. I do them but every 4 months or so I run a new full backup and start over again gary67 (56)

I thought the incremental backups deleted after a certain number stipulated. Pato (2463)
