Really? It should boot off the CD - you have CD drive as first boot device in the BIOS? Then watch for the Press a key message.

I'm avoiding Win 8, have no desire to own a tablet at this stage and that's what it is for really.

1321438 2013-01-09 08:16:00 Just a thought - a few years ago Ubuntu introduced the Unity interface to the community. Heaps of people complained very strongly. Now (a few years later) some of the people who complained the loudest are it's biggest advocates.

Can't help wondering if the same will happen with W8?

I hated Unity and I still hate it. That's why I use Xubuntu instead, now.

I doubt I will ever enjoy Metro either.

Can't help wondering if the same will happen with W8? Yep, some people have short memories.

Similar thing happened with Windows 7.

Many people were saying W7 is nothing more than Vista with some bugs fixed, and what Vista should have been. Also saying that W7 should have been a Vista Service pack.

Now while there is a bit of truth to that, what many don't know is W7 had a LOT of work done under the hood from Vista that no one sees. W8 is very similar, its windows 7 with some changes, the biggest noticeable ones are the start menu and removal of the start button. W8 has had a LOT of work done under the hood. Most only see what they want. These same people who were saying W7 is a vista upgrade now are singing the praises of W7.

Assuming MS continue on with W8 layout, in the next couple of OS realises, many will be left behind. ( already seen a couple of techs who are dumbfounded by W8 operations)

Some people (www.21st-century-christianity.com) :D

1321443 2013-01-09 21:24:00 Time and sales figures will prove which OS is the better one! Define better ?

Seem to remember most people saying XP was the best, and no need for W7, now those same people say windows 7 is far better than XP. people have short memories.

Whats going to happen when MS can W7 and people only have W8 or what ever is the current OS ?

And I don't mean because people don't like change and want to stay with the current systems . Theres a few features that are in W8 that integrate a lot better with other MS products, that many don't use.

Personally theres been several times I've gone to do actions in W7 after using w8, and they are actually slower or require more steps.

As mentioned before if MS continue along the same lines in the future people will be left behind. MS don't look at "NOW" they look towards the future and building on so to speak.

Bet you anything you like if Apple did the same thing to their OS, adding in the same type of start menu to match the iPad interface it would be oh so fantastic, innovative and great move.

1321444 2013-01-09 21:44:00 Generally accepted by most end users. bk T (215)
1321445 2013-01-09 21:54:00 Its a known fact that many people don't like change and prepared to advance.

Point being the comment I made about XP. Many said it was the best, yet have now changed to W7.

That answer is not really an answer, considering I also asked "Whats going to happen when MS can W7 and people only have W8 or what ever is the current OS ?"

1321446 2013-01-09 22:20:00 It's pointless to debate on this topic: Win7 vs Win8.

Let the public end-users decide which OS they prefer. If he/she likes the new Win8, that's fine; otherwise, just stay where you are. That's perfectly OK, too.

By now, there are plenty of information available on the Net re the pros and cons about this new OS (not so new now).

When it comes to a time where only 1 OS is available (to run their applications), what options have they got? But that's a long way to go, not too worry about it, at least for another 5 years or much longer!

Sales figures will speak for themselves.
