1321614 2013-01-06 08:03:00 Hi everyone,
I want to go through and stop some programs and services from running at startup, as I want to try and get my PC loading quicker again. But I've just got a few questions before I go ahead with it.

1) Using the Startup Tool in CCleaner, if I disable a program in the Windows startup Tab, does that mean it only stops the program from running at startup? Or will it not run at all?

2) Using services.msc, I understand that if I disable a service, then it won't run at all. And if I set it to Manual, then it will automatically load up/run when it is needed? eg if I set Adobe Flash Player Update Service to Manual, then it will only try to run this service when I open Adobe and tell it to check for updates?

3) I've read elsewhere that people disable pretty much everything in the CCleaner Startup Tool except for OS related and AntiVirus related stuff, is this ok?

4) Can someone please have a look through the attached screenshots (one from CCleaner, 5 from Services.msc) and tell me which programs I can disable (CCleaner) and which services I can disable or set to Manual (Services.msc)? Or just let me know which ones I need to keep at Startup?

Thanks heaps guys
Sam

I would use msconfig from the start menu.
Yes, what you untick here will not load at startup but does not prevent it from being launched manually.

True.
Yes

I wouldn't, unless you are sure you do not need it here at all.
And again, use Msconfig.

I use Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin Its a tiny machine code program that controls ALL your startups not just the ones in Msconfig. To figure what you want to stop checkout here www.techspot.com its pretty comprehensive.
