1296783 2012-08-25 09:27:00 Tried to call them today to get the inlaws new account set up.

What a laugh - the message they give:

McAfee, (which Xtra are peddling at the moment) Have put out a update that kills the internet connection completely.

Now Xtra in their wisdom have emailed all their customers and have advised of the problem and how to fix it.

BUT with no internet, you also have no email, ( no friggin kidding) ;) so you cant get the email - now that's clever lol , and theres over an hour wait to talk to someone :D

1296785 2012-08-25 09:35:00 I setup a new vodadfone account, they couldn't transfer the number obviously as we have moved from Nelson to Christchurch so the connection team just emailed me and said nope no can do. Rang them tonight got a very helpful guy on the phone and he told me the clowns had just cancelled the order, when all they needed to do was call me and ask if we were happy to have new number.

He could not believe they just canned the connection so hopefully will be on by Tuesday now. Router came yesterday, but with no phone connection all it can do is allow the home network to work.

1296786 2012-08-25 09:48:00 Well the inlaws have just moved, but they cant have telstra who they were with. The mother-in-law rang Xtra the other day and was meant to have got it all setup.

The phone number they were given is not the actual one they have, had to ring from their place to my cell to find out its number - caller ID.:illogical The previous owner had already had the phone disconnected so it wasn't theirs.

Then last week she was told it would take a month to get the ADSL on, and Modem to them. WTF:eek:

Today I attached a modem/router and the ADSL synced straight in, but of course wouldn't connect as they had not actually got an account yet. ay ay ay.:groan:

Hence the phone call to try and get it going.

Mind you she was quick enough to tell the guy at xtra they didn't want the Mcafee they were trying to push, already had a good AV ( nod32) and she was told - yep thats a good one

1296788 2012-08-25 12:56:00 Isn't Mcafee useless compared to some other anti-virus programs.
Pretty much... It's renowned for doing this kind of thing :p

1296789 2012-08-25 20:09:00 Some advice.
Xtra had my phone on in 2 hrs, broadband in 4.

Don't ring 123 and select broadband, faults..whatever. Select accounts.
That way you get NZ. They do it all - properly. And it avoids the round in circles madness you get through Manila.

1296790 2012-08-26 00:47:00 Funny how sticky the Xtra brand seems to be.

Xtra is just a domain name these days, administered (badly) by Yahoo.

Telecom is the provider of services...

1296791 2012-08-26 00:52:00 With Clear, ask for, or press number for "Technical Services"
Goes local and saves a very long wait.

1296792 2012-08-26 03:22:00 Or just use an ISP like Actrix, where everything is local, helpful, knowledgeable and quick. Tony (4941)
