1475373 2021-03-04 19:43:00 It was quite a long one...I was about to wake husband and go under the oak table when it stopped.
Bed swaying, freezer swaying etc.

7.1 off Gisborne in case anyone missed the news.

Bit of excitement ay kenj!

Yes, best shake for many years. Had some good ones since I moved here in 1963. Rolling ones are OK. It's the sharp ones that are a worry as they do more damage.

1475376 2021-03-05 01:42:00 Wait till you get the ones which come in like an express train, rolling and grumbling with a saw-tooth waveform impressed on the main wave shape.

Forward and backward, up and down, left and right all at the same time.

Had one in nelson, my bed (with me in it) travelled across the room.
We had some house damage.

But yes, the ones like the last napier one....not so keen.
I found my mum and brother, despite living here for ages, had no idea what sort of drop and cover you meant to do.

It's now on the fridge............

1475379 2021-03-05 04:20:00 SWMBO asked me if we should get up and stand in a doorway. I figured out that by the time I got out of bed to the bedroom door it would be over.... or, I would trip up and end up on the floor with broken bones. So we stayed in bed.

When it was over, I asked SWMBO "did the earth move for you" then dodged the pillow that was turfed at me.

1475380 2021-03-05 05:16:00 Slept through it here in Wellington, but in the morning noticed several pictures on the walls were skew.

The later shakes had no effect here either.

1475381 2021-03-05 19:16:00 Apparently the doorway thing is a myth, most modern homes are not any stronger in doorways, so says the advice website. piroska (17583)
1475382 2021-03-05 19:50:00 Probably left over from the Blitz, as those pommy houses had tile roofs. prefect (6291)
