1475061 2021-02-15 00:08:00 It's only been a thing in the last 15-20 years that shops began selling bottles of water - water that you could get out of the tap for free.:groan:

We never carried bottles of water and somehow we survived until we arrived at school or arrived home after school. We never had the need. So why is it that this generation find it necessary to keep a bottle of water on their person? Young children are brought up with their own drink bottle and parents are concerned to see that their children always have a full bottle of water.

So what has changed? Why does this generation need to carry a bottle of water wherever they go and why do they continually need to have a drink?

I have not joined this craze and I don't have a need to drink at all hours of the day. I just have a drink when I am at home, at breakfast, morning tea, lunch and tea and that is enough for me and I'm not suffering in any way. If I'm away from home, I just wait until I return home, however long that may be - sometimes all afternoon! Shock! Horror!:horrified

So I just don't understand what this urge to carry a water bottle and drink all day is about.

1475063 2021-02-15 02:23:00 People have been fed the BS that you have to always "be hydrated' Never worried about it, not has it ever affected my ability to walk myself. Have a drink before I walk for an hour then a drink when I get home.

1475065 2021-02-15 04:16:00 I used to like my water with a bit of body in it.

You know, that which came from a rainwater tank that had a decomposing bird and possum floating on top, which you had to carefully remove with a butterfly net.

The necessity for this inconvenient bit of maintenance was indicated by the tap filter being blocked.

Nowadays I prefer my drinks fermented, as opposed to contaminated. ;)

This .

You might die of dehydration on your lift in a car home from school or something .

1475068 2021-02-15 05:43:00 Because marketing has convivnced the majority that tap water isn't safe and we should carry our water bottled at great expense.

I carry a water bottle in the car and to work but it is filled from the tap at home. I also carry one tramping unless I know I will be near a river for most of the trip.

1475069 2021-02-15 05:46:00 i find it funny as.
for work dehydration is a big issue. sweating your butt off out in the sun all day. we generally carry 3-5 litres each and some days that doesn't last long.
yet none of us walk around caring water bottles, let alone buy the stuff.

Do you take Salt tablets like the old Miners and a lot of other "Physical" workers? ;)

It was compulsory not that long ago, in Aus, that the Employer had to supply the Employee with Salt Tablets.

A Mate, now dearly departed, (when well into retirement), did 12 years in Aus and started getting cramp in his legs, and went off to the Chemist asking to purchase "Salt Tablets".

Well, the Chemist gave him such a lecture, and got a heap of expletives in return, setting out the error of his ways.

Anyway, after short discussion it was agreed that I would supply the Salted Peanuts and he would supply the Beer. :D

Another problem solved. :)
