1474924	2021-02-08 21:11:00	Well, in the USA where much of their electricity is from coal or oil it would be expected that prices will have to trend upwards. However, in the case of the link re ptrol companies, you need to bear in mind that there's alternative options to keep a lid on prices. People will mostly charge from home rather than from these petrol outlets, plus there's alternatives like solar/powerwall to help stop the petrol companies from gutting people. It's probably more about keeping some business happening on their forecourts once the only use for petrol is the lawnmower.	Paul.Cov (425)

1474926	2021-02-10 03:15:00	Electric cars are great but they just move the pollution from the exhaust pipe to the power stations and lithium mines. Perhaps something like hydrogen fuel cell vehicles + power generation by fusion reactor would actually reduce pollution, but we'll probably all blow ourselves up before we get there...	Agent_24 (57)
1474927	2021-02-10 04:27:00	Running an electric vehicle will only be cheap until there are lots of them. The cost of all electric energy will increase exponentially once there is no choice but to use it. There is no way that the Government (any government) will forgo the substantial tax revenue that is currently being collected from the use of petroleum products. If you want to look into the future have a good look at the States of Victoria and South Australia where they have brown and black outs on a regular basis and pay through the nose for the electricity they do use. Those States have tried to go completely green. They have closed a lot of traditional generation plants on the theory that wind and solar would do the job. It does not.	CliveM (6007)

So after EV's get really common, they will start making it harder & expensive to use EV's (just as they now do with petrol cars) . EV or gas , still will be the same parking issues & traffic issues . I'd love an EV, but cant spend that amount of $ on a car (My current car cost $2k) Cost and issues with charging if you dont have off street parking are issues that wont be fixed any time soon. The footpaths will eventually be cluttered with charging cables , as people charge cars parked on the road outside their house . That will be a real danger to the public .	1101 (13337)

Unfortunately, I cant see NZ spending on all the necessary Electricity infrastructure upgrades that WILL be needed .
