But , one way to safely kill LiPo batts is drop them in salty water . Ive done this with my failing RC Lipo batts
I guess being underwater they are smothered & safe .

Lithium batts dont need any air to burn, thats why they are so hard to put out . They can generate their own oxygen when ruptured/overheated etc .
You need to smother the flames (eg with sand) , but will still be reacting .

Wonder where 82,000 EV batteries are going to wind up?

And you can bet there is more to come.
