1469617 2020-06-22 10:01:00 Any other options other than buying a switch?

You already have one - your previous HG659B.
Just turn off it's DHCP server and run a cable from a LAN port on your new one to a LAN port on the HG.

1469618 2020-06-22 10:29:00 Forgot about my HG659B.

You reckon my HG659B will work with the new UNPLAN? If it works then I can just use it.

No idea, but it WILL work as a switch.

edit: According to this, yes.

1469620 2020-06-22 21:42:00 reusing the old router is a terrible idea
reusing an old router as a switch is a terrible idea
reusing an old router as an access point is a terrible
using the old router instead of the BETTER new one is a terrible idea

Its $28 for a Gigabit switch from PB Tech
Save yourself some grief , do it properly :)

Oh? Why?
We've been using my old Spark modem on my brothers Voyager plan for nearly 2 years now.
Modem is a lot older than that too.
I changed all the settings and away it went.

1469622 2020-06-22 22:15:00 Got up this morning, the change over has completed seamlessly - with my good old HG659B plugged in.

All Ethernet and wireless connections are working as usual.

Speed test seems to be OK, although not perfect, but acceptable, I think.

What do you experts think?

Old router resets , DHCP conflicts, choas ensues (yes, that does happen)
Old router has significantly worse wifi capability , so better to use the new router .
User doesnt know how to disable DHCP & leaves it on , chaos ensues
old router resets : now have wifi channel conflicts
for a start......

Just because its possible never makes anything a good idea .

1469624 2020-06-22 23:55:00 I have the same Spark plan and the new modem (connection began late Jan 2020) . I am very pleased with the plan because now I only pay for what I use, and because I no longer have to have a landline, unlike my former Spark deal . The cessation of landline spam calls is a bonus, and the quality of the landline calls via fiber was crap . She and I both have cheap Vodafone plans for cell phones, and we are much happier this way .

I cannot find anything other than Spark branding on the modem .

Both the previous and the current Spark contracts were in 2 storey houses . With the previous contract and H659 modem I had to install two Powerline adapters (?) and an older router to get a decent WIFI signal upstairs (the ONT box was downstairs) but we both had several dropped connections every day when using tablets upstairs . Now we need none of that extra equipment, and we get a rock solid connection all day every day in both storeys of the house .

1469625 2020-06-23 04:01:00 I am keen to try out the New modem/router.

If I were to set up the wifi with the same SSID name and same password as my old HG659B, do you think that my devices will be able to connect without having to go through the connecting process all over again?
