| 1475359 | 2021-03-10 20:28:00 | "The Repair Shop" is another good one if you like repairing things. Tonight 7:30 : 8.30 TV1. Paintings, Ornaments, Clocks, Watches, you name it and they'll fix it. Some of the ones I've seen I figured the repair bill would be in the $1000's but it turns out it's all free. Only problem for us is the whole thing is in England. :crying We also watch The Repair Shop. Very interesting. Also the news, but not a lot more which is why we watch some of the excellent British programmes via You Tube. |

| 1475360 | 2021-03-10 21:45:00 | I hardly ever watch the news now days and therefore don’t have to suffer announcers talking some hybrid language that only they themselves can understand. Put that alongside the pathetic advertisements and it’s all too much. On the humorous side, it seems the Broadcasting Standards Authority has received numerous complaints about the use of this hybrid language and refuses to address any further complaints. Some say the announcers are trying to speak Maori, but this can’t be right because I’m absolutely sure Maori never had a word for the Covid-19 virus. 10821 |

We have been given a calendar with all the maori names for the days of the week and months of the year and I'm certain that they never had seven days of the week or twelve months of the year. These are just made up names. It's ridiculous! |

The maoris are not borrowing words from another languages, they are making up words as I said, such as days of the week and months of the year. But what is worse is the TVNZ announcer's pronunciation of maori words. When the colonists wrote down maori words they wrote them as they heard them. So how does Papatoetoe (in the news recently) become Puputoitoi? And how does Whanua become Funoe? It used to be Radio Hauraki. Now it's Hoeruki. I'm quite certain the maoris never pronounced their words like that. Ridiculous! |

I concede that a lot of younger Maori have derived their version of Maori from Anglo Saxon, by restricting words to four letters, and ignoring the fact that the words should end in a vowel. ;) |
