| 101218 | 2002-11-25 07:26:00 | Hi, the FAQ referred to is: How do I restart in Safe Mode (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) When scandisk or defrag won't run properly, you would normally run the programs in Safe Mode. I am not sure if this is applicable for Disk Cleanup though - sounds if something more sinister is happening. You could always give it a go and see what happens. Someone else may have further advice. Cheers Jen |

| 101222 | 2002-11-25 20:45:00 | Synchronised_Thoughts, Try running them in Safe Mode. Things that can cause hangs/freezes may be: * too many programs open at the same time. * too little hard drive space left. * applications running in the background (e.g. anti-virus, firewall). * one or more of your applications hogging resources. * lack of periodic maintenance (remove unused programs, AntiVirus scan, scandisk, defrag). * temporary folders are full of files. * missing some critical updates from Windows Update. NOTE: One thing about Disk Cleanup; one of its options is to delete the Temporary files. Unfortunately this option may display a value of 0 even if the temp folder contains tens or even hundreds of megabytes of useless files. Why? because this value only lists files in the Temp folder that are more than a week old. I f you want to clear out this temp folder do it manually. Close all running programs and type %TEMP% in the RUN dialogue box, and from the explorer window that comes up delete everything you find, Some files may not be able to be deleted until you reboot. Try some of the points mentioned above and see how you get on. Cheers, Babe. |

| 101224 | 2002-11-25 21:07:00 | Synchronised_Thoughts, yes as many as you can... Some files may not be able to be deleted but you need to clean up as many as possible. Cheers, Babe. |
