101095 2002-11-24 22:31:00 Whe, deleting, copying, or choosing "properties" on ANY file or folder, Windows 2000 is does a quick check on the floppy drive - UBER ANNOYING, coz it takes time, and makes the most annoying sound. thepantychrist (2620)
101096 2002-11-24 22:42:00 i have no idea if you can stop that in w2k or not but the other solution is to get a quiet floppy drive. tweak'e (174)
101097 2002-11-24 23:50:00 you could try putting a floppy in the drive .. it'll make those annoying things go away :D SKT174 (1319)
101098 2002-11-25 01:31:00 Yeah, I put a floppy in there... but it is still checking it, that's the annoying part, it takes a second or two to check, that's just a pain, surely I can stop it from whirring away.. It doesn't need to do it, so it shouldn't. HEELLLPPPP! thepantychrist (2620)
101099 2002-11-25 02:42:00 mine doesn't. sounds like you have a virus scanner installed perhaps?? or an old version of find fast? BIFF (1)
101100 2002-11-25 12:27:00 I think this problem is due to a program or possibly Win2k caching folders and files for faster access off drives. Sometimes it caches the A: and always checks on it.

I can't remember the steps to stopping it as it was a while ago that I dealt with it. It could possibly be a registry tweak or removing/disabling a service.

Sorry I couldn't help that much.
