| 101070 | 2002-11-24 21:33:00 | HAVE INSTALLED WIN 98 ON A FRIENDS COMPAQ 7212. THE INSTALL GETS TO THE LAST RESTART BUT STALLS ON THE SHUTDOWN SCREEN. REBOOT AND GET THE ERROR MESSAGE "CONFIGMG, PLEASE RESTART THE COMPUTER". HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I CAN FIND ON COMPAQ (ROMPAQS AND SOFTPAQS) AND MICROSOFT SITES INCLUDING THE SHUT DOWN FIX AND THE TROUBLE SHOOT WIZARD.NO FIX.THE MACHINE WILL BOOT UP AND I CAN FINISH THE INSTALL USING STEP BY STEP STARTUP, BUT THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL THERE AFTER COMPLETE INSTALL. |

| 101075 | 2002-11-25 08:00:00 | Sorry about the shouting,had my hearing aid off.I have run set up several times with different aproaches, all ending with the same result. The install gets past the copy files stage,restarts fine ,goes through the hardware stage but then fails on the next restart. Comes up with the message "While initializing device CONFIGMG: Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer." Restarting results in the same.Restart in step by step and the computer starts up..only to fail again on the next shutdown and restart. |
