101016 2002-11-24 18:42:00 I have an Athlon 1 gig on a DFI AK75TC M/B with 512megs of RAM running Windows 98SE. a 350 watt PSU is also installed. It has been running fine for over a year. Now it has suddenly decided to randomly restart at the most critical of times... ie copying a file over the network, etc. No rhyme or reason. CPU temp is fine. Only new software added was the Ulead Video studio that came on a recent PC World CD.

Any suggestions

101017 2002-11-24 19:51:00 faulty PSU ?

You could boot off a knoppix CD and try to work out if you do have faulty hardware.

101018 2002-11-24 22:09:00 have you tweaked the vcache settings?

check how mauch resources you have at startup (it would pay to monitor them anyway)

101019 2002-11-24 22:11:00 Something I had recently, make sure your Powe cord is in VERY SECURELY... I had my PC crack up a few nights ago coz I'd half-knocked it out when swapping the mouse! Chilling_Silence (9)
101020 2002-11-26 04:46:00 Hi Gibler. No its a newish 350 Watt installed about 6 months ago and I tried Knoppix... it has a problem with my ProSavage onboard Video. Liked the look of it tho'... tried it on my laptop...looks nice. Andrew1967 (2614)
101021 2002-11-26 04:48:00 I haven't tweaked anything... its an out of the box 98SE installation. Will run system monitor and check resource levels. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

101022 2002-11-26 04:50:00 Thanks for the tip... Checked all cables when it started doing this. All firmly in place. Mate has suggested a possible RAM issue. Says cos I've been doing some big AVI file editing in Ulead I may have struck a bad address in RAM. Will be checking tonight. Andrew1967 (2614)
