101862 2002-11-27 05:51:00 Hi, I am looking to buy a set of 5.1 speakers ...... and from wat I ve seen they range from $70 to $300. Basically, I am just looking for any advice or recommendations on what brand or specific speakers should I buy, and what I should look out for when buying it.

I own a SBLive 5.1 sound card. And looking for something possibily less than $200

Thanx!

101863 2002-11-27 07:09:00 Hi. Some discussion on puter speakers can be found at pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

The TDK's are highly praised, and you don't even need to get the top of the range set - even the S40 and 60's are great

101864 2002-11-27 07:11:00 The most important thing is to go to a retailer where you can listen to a range of speakers.

All speaker systems can sound different, and everyones sound perception is different. Don't buy speakers solely on the basis of a review. Let your own ears be the judge. Also make sure that you can return and replace if after a few days you don't like the sound.

101865 2002-11-27 07:13:00 I should have mentioned that the TDK's are a wonderful speaker.

Not 5.1 - but make sure you listen to them anyway.

I have the Tremor S150 myself. Luverly sound. But epensive LOL

101866 2002-11-27 07:16:00 Let ur ears do the deciding. I would personally go to, a specialist audio shop. Its a waste if u have limited speakers on such a good sound card. Bit like, having a powerful PC with a AOC monitor and try to do graphics with it.

101867 2002-11-28 06:00:00 Baldy - you paid too much!

Rayonline - the SBLive 5.1 card, which is what I have, is actually these days regarded as mediocre.

101869 2002-11-28 07:07:00 i personally take sound cards wif a grain of salt unless i am filthy rich.
great speakers with a avg card is way better than nice speakers/card.
a amplifier, 6 speakers and a subwoofer will be great :D

u have to keep upgrading hardware anyway something i dislike... i choosing PS2 now, leaving my P3 alone and into devices. without devices i believe its jus a box of wires without any abilities. i am not into upgrading every 3 months.
