101737 2002-11-26 23:56:00 RealPlayer security fix is faulty

"The problem is still out there now," Litchfield told us this afternoon. "There's no working fix nor any workaround. My only suggestion would be not to use RealPlayer (if you were paranoid enough) until a working patch is available."

101738 2002-11-27 00:13:00 Thanks for the valuable info Tweak'e.

I stopped using RealOne when it took a life of its own and kept trying to "ram rod" its way into being my default player.

me to. which is a shame. the actually player is not to bad and the codecs are fairly good. anyone know where a *cough* realplayer codec is?? <hides from moderators>

101741 2002-11-27 00:28:00 Are you saying MS products don't have any security problems and Windows Media Player is safe?
Realplayer is no worse than any other.
Blame MS for their inability to design a secure operating system.

Security hole in media player's antipiracy feature could allow hackers to access your computer.

not at all. what on earth gave you that strange idea.

MS have had a few holes in mediaplayer that they have fixed which is better than reals latest effort.

personally i don't use either. but you still need the codecs to be able to use with another player.(and very few other players support real codecs :( )

101744 2002-11-27 00:42:00 If I install real player, what alternatives are there for playing streaming video / audio from site that have the real player logo? crozier (2004)
101745 2002-11-27 00:46:00 Very good point Crozier. There was something I wanted to watch the other day but had to flag due to no Real player

not to sure . real is a closed system . there is ment to be a hack type program which lets you save the streaming media but i think u still need realplayer installed .

as far as i know if you want streaming realmedia then you need realplayer .
theres a few players that will play realmedia files that you have downloaded but you have to install realplyer to get the codecs for it to work .
