| 101727 | 2002-11-26 22:57:00 | My new notebook will only hold an internet connection for a max. 3 minute duration. This occurs with both my ISP's and other phone locations in NZ and overseas. ISP's unable to troubleshoot problem. Hardware/software suspected. Using Windows XP Home and IE 6. Have uninstalled and reinstalled modem. Have downloaded and installed modem driver and BIOS Revision R0220B0 for XP from Sony site to no avail. No solution from Sony support so far. Does anyone have any ideas WRT XP or IE settings/flaws that might contribute to this exasperating problem? Anyone else had issues/solutions with Conexant-Ambit SoftK56 modems for Vaio notebooks? Many thanks, Mike. |

The other possibility is you have your mail program set to check mail and is set to hang up after sending/receiving The more likely cause is your modem connecting too fast for the line conditions. Try this to see if there is any improvement. Start/ control panels/ phone and modem options Click on Modem tab and then Properties Click on Modem tab and change Max port speed to 38400 Click on Advanced In the Extra initialization commands box enter +MS=V34 Click OK and OK again |
