102233 2002-11-29 01:38:00 my 'downloaded files' folder, I like to view in date groups with the last modified (downloaded) at the top, which I can do and in 'my programs' folder, I like to view them alphabetically, in groups also.

the problem is the downloaded files folder never remembers the view! and always reverts to not grouped, alphabetically.

In folder options I have 'remember folder views' ticked, but is there somewhere else I need to go to tick??

thanks, trev

102234 2002-11-29 03:42:00 Hi Trev,

I've had Win XP for just under a week and the way it wasn't remembering my preferred settings was was driving me barmy. Babe Ruth sorted me out with this advice:

Set your folder up how you want it (I chose the Details view as the default), open Windows Explorer and select View, Details. Next, select Tools, then select Folder Options. On the View tab, select Apply to All Folders. Hopefully it will do the trick for you.

Be aware that it makes ALL your folders the same so if that's not what you want it might not be suitable for you.

102235 2002-11-29 05:46:00 Thanks for that Susan, but what i really want is some folders to look one way and others to look another (large icons for most files and pic thumbnails for me)
It's the 'order' I'm wanting to customise per folder though..(as per post)

102237 2002-11-29 08:41:00 Trev0,

OK try the following registry modification, NOTE backup your registry FIRST before attempting these changes.

Click START | RUN and in the run box type REGEDIT and press OK
navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\BagMRU

Export this key by right clicking on the keyname and selecting EXPORT and giving an appropriate name and folder path, Once exported delete the key. Do the same for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\Bags

Restart windows to take effect.

You can now modify the settings for each folder and the settings should stay.

Cheers, Babe.

102238 2002-11-29 09:43:00 Thanks BR
I'm giving that a go now and will confirm the positive outcome tomorrow...So far so good though...(there seemed to be a whole heap in those two keys! It's hard to imagine how much info windows can do without!!)

Hi Babe,
Sorry this is re: an old post, but I am having the same prob and spotted it in F1.
I too prefer different views for specific folders eg: Icons for Contol Panel but Details for Explorer and Thumbnails for pix.
Pleased to see you had a registry mod to try, but being a newbie, I am a bit confused about what "an appropriate name and folder path" might be. Is this the folder you wish to "lock" the view of ? or where would you expect the keyname to be exported to ? I'm not sure where I'm headed here, and why.
I'm sure you can elaborate.
Thanx,
dalwynr.

102242 2003-03-21 04:28:00 I believe he's talking about exporting the registry key. Read it very carefully, as playing around with the registry can be dangerous.

I'd suggest you make a folder on your c:\ Drive, call it something like:
Reg Key Backups
And save all the backups to there, naming them apropriately....
By this, naming them as something descriptive that might help you easily should you need to restore them...

I think that's what you're after... sorry if I'm fully on the wrong track here ;-)

Cheers
