2002-11-29 05:31:00 | And Loshing, is this the sort of upgrade you are thinking off? Intel Pentium4 1.8Ghz Processor ECS P4266 Mainboard 256MB RAM $499+gst What benefits to my system would this upgrade make? (I'm assuming that this would be able to be fitted to my system without any problems, are there any potential pitfalls for me?) If I went for such an upgrade would I then be better to look at one of the G4 cards? Would my existing 384 SDRAM be able to be used with this or would I need to fit some different ram if I wanted more than 256MB (which I would).

2002-11-29 08:16:00 | yes Danger something like that. just watch the prices tho. some try to sell the GF3 at GF4 prices. | tweak'e (174) | |
2002-11-29 09:50:00 | A geforce 256 or gts pro would work well on your PC and improve any 3d games by a large amount , make sure you get 32 megs of ddr ram minimum on any graphics card . | kiwibeat (304) | |
2002-11-29 10:12:00 | Thanks kiwibeat. What about a Leadtek WinFast A280 nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP 8X 128MB DDR VIVO Video Card? $399.00 + gst. Am I wasting money on this? Because my processor is too slow? I hate buying something that I won't be happy with a year down the track.

2002-11-29 10:22:00 | be a little over kill. however it depends on how soon you will update the rest. one way is to get something like a GF2 gts which will still give you a big improvement and is cheap (2nd hand very few new ones left) and get better video card when you upgrade the whole pc. or get GF4 now and upgrade the rest of pc to suit it a little later.

2002-11-29 17:56:00 | I'm gonna be getting a GF4 440MX - 64MB RAM. NZ_Liam has one of these too and said it performed quite well. I think the proccessor was similar to yours (Think..). I'm gonna be going with one of those next week when I (Finally - I bought a Network Switch) get around to actually making a PC. I've read lotsa good reviews, and while they arent the best card on the market (Those Raedon 9700's look delicious!), they'll do the job for most of my gamin needs - if not all. I've been stuck playing Unreal Tournament on a 300Mhz in a 400x300 window. I've been playing it a little on the family PC in a 640x480 window - but coz its onboard, its not the best. So far in life I've been happy with that and a framerate of 25ish per second. I've been chatting to somebody who has that card and they said that they play in 1024x768 or HIGHER at ALL TIMES! This person also said that they constantly acheive over 60FPS! There's my two cents worth, Cheers Chilling_Silence

2002-12-02 08:40:00 | Ok, thanks for all your replys. It seems my motherboard is quite dated (only supports 1x/2x agp) and so I will upgrade this, so then I will need to replace the processor, and get a sound card, and then I can fit a new video card. | 102346 | 2002-12-02 08:44:00 | you will need new ram. 256 of ddr would be sweet. | tweak'e (174) | |
2002-12-02 08:52:00 | Prob need to use ddr-ram with it, but looks all good! Only prob is that the Asus P4B533 doesn't support hyperthreading... you will find that you prob need to update mobo next time... if you really want something for the future, get an Asus P4S8X... supports latest hyperthreading P4 3.06Ghz and higher. Lo.
