| 102108 | 2002-11-28 05:53:00 | I have sent the day working on a friends box. he had a gforceII mx 400 and wanted to upgrade to a gforce 4 ti4200 I swaped cards no problem and all looked good. installed the drivers. tested it with 3Dmark2001se and it all workd nice. he rang me up an hour ago and he says his games wont work bacause thay need directX8 or higher and the games(more than one) says "directX8 not installed" we reinstalled directX8 and this dident help. we reinstalled video card drivers with WHQL versions. the system worked find for one game and then after a reboot it is back to "directX8 is not installed" the system is win98se can anyone help?? should i just reinstall windows? (note his system two years old and has never had a reinstall and c:\windows is almost 2Gb) I feal that he has had somany diffrent drivers and other crap in the system that with a reinstall of windows at least we know where we stand. any help would be nice. thanks |

| 102109 | 2002-11-28 06:26:00 | When you swapped the cards, did you first uninstall the old card under device manager, shut down, swap cards, power up and install the drivers for the new card? Just powering down and swapping cards can leave the new card cross-eyed as it is fed the old card drivers when it boots up. May cause new drivers to fail to install correctly. Of course, your mileage may vary |
