102399 2002-12-02 01:11:00 If you have a brush-type cleaner and it has a little bottle of liquid with which to wet the brush, that's isopropyl alcohol.

Some of the cheapest brush cleaners can lose the little hairs ... I suppose they could stay on the lens (especially if it has any static charge) and make things worse. :D

IPA is not recommended for some camera lenses --- basically because it can destroy (dissolve) some anti-reflection coatings.

The solvent to avoid is methanol (either pure or "meths"). That gives some clear plastics a "frosted" appearance. :-( Some "rubbbing alcohols" are a mixture of IPA and ethanol or methanol ... the only isopropyl to use on any plastic is pure IPA.
