102660 2002-12-02 04:10:00 Hey,
Im after a decent TV card (ideally for less than $200) and am wondering what to get. Anything to look out for/avoid?
Could go over budget but the cheaper the better. I want FM radio and decent capture. What are the better brands?
Taa,

102661 2002-12-02 04:21:00 I have a DSE one, had it for a couple of years.

look at this link (www.dse.co.nz)

In my experience they are not as good as a real video capture card though, quite low resolution if you want to capture hi-res video.

Most use the same chipsets, so may not be a huge choice? Watch for incompatability with Geoforce 2, 3 and TNT cards.
Mine works OK with Geoforce 4
Teletext doesn't work under XP.

Mine is the liteview 98, with stereo FM plus TV (TV sound is mono)

102662 2002-12-02 05:01:00 Thanks for the reply.
How have you found the picture quality of TV to be (mine is a 17 inch monitor)?
Also, is the software any good? I have a friend with an old card and (not suprisingly as it is old) the software is rubbish..
I have a Gforce 4, so hopefully no probs there, but thanks for mentioning it, I wouldn't have thought of that....

102663 2002-12-02 05:14:00 If you want the picture full screen, then don't expect too much. Looks good in a smaller window but there is a limit to the resolution, its grainy at 15" on an LCD screen (equiv to a 17" CRT)

If you want TV, buy a TV set. If you want video capture, buy a capture card. If you want both, there are compromises.

Also, I had this card in a PIII 667 Mhz PC, it would not go full screen, not enough processing power. Presently in a P4, 2 Ghz PC and is fine.

Will not capture well on the P3 667 either.

I use my Geoforce 4 MX 460 card for video capture, much better.
