102427	2002-11-29 19:36:00	I've got IIS running on my computer, but I want to block access to it externally (so that people can't access anything by using my IP address over the net). I'm using IIS for website testing, so I want it to be accessed only locally. Is there a way I can not allow access through settings in IIS (IIS 5.1 in Win XP Pro)? Or do I need to change a setting somewhere in my firewall (Norton Internet Security 2003). If it's possible to change a setting in IIS, can I make it so that someone externally can access it using a login of some type, or is it safer not to do that? Mike.	Mike (15)
102428	2002-12-01 21:33:00	I just had a look and the one bit which seemed to be relevant mentioned that it was only for 2000 Server editions :(. I spose you could use a .htaccess file to restrict access. I find that IIS doesn't like some firewalls all that much. But then again I find that the way I've got it configured I get asked to enter in a password if I use anything other than IE with the address "localhost" and I haven't mucked around with the settings as far as I know.	-=JM=- (16)

102430	2002-12-02 06:47:00	I just installed IIS. It seemed to take care of the rest for me. If I use 127.0.0.1 in IE I get a login thing which I have no idea as to what to do with it. If I use another browser either 127.0.0.1 or localhost I get a login thing and can just enter my standard windows login/pass to get access. THis is XP Pro with administrator account and my own account (admin rights), no guest account.	-=JM=- (16)
102431	2002-12-09 08:19:00	Hmmm... didn't make any difference for me - I've got a secure system (can't even access it through a LAN for some stupid reason) but it's quite open via HTTP to the net... not quite what I want... Mike.	Mike (15)
