102929 2002-12-03 03:51:00 I have an Athlon XP 1600+, my graphics card is geforce4 mx440. I am not happy with its performance (frame rates etc) and am looking at replacing my card.
My operating system is win xp with 512-ddr rams. Keeping a reasonable budget in mind, what would be a good card replacement? I have read good and bad reviews on geforce4 ti series so am at a bit of a loss.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

102930 2002-12-03 03:52:00 The new ATI Raedon 9700 Looks good... Not too sure if its a budget card though :-D Chilling_Silence (9)
102931 2002-12-03 03:56:00 Thanks for your reply. That card does sound very good although it's price is $1019!
Any other ideas?
Cheers Paul.

102932 2002-12-03 23:32:00 You might wanna look into something along the lines on the Ti4600 range, they're supposed to be quite good! Chilling_Silence (9)
102933 2002-12-03 23:38:00 Hi Paul. Are you sure you need to replace the graphccs card? My system is very similar to yours except that I have an XP 2000+:

GF4 440
512mb DDR
Windows XP Pro

I have absolutely not problems with frames rates and so on. All my games play at the highest video settings beautifully.

Have you tried updating the driver?

Paradigm PCs http://www.pp.co.nz sells ATI Radeon 9700 PRO for as low as $847

102935 2002-12-03 23:56:00 So what was bad about the Ti series specifically?

I'd wait (if you can) until Feb or so next year when nvidia's new graphics chip will be in full production. Then you will (hopefully) see some good price drops.

102936 2002-12-04 00:03:00 If cost and performance is a concern then a Ti4200 64MB DDR should be a good choice :) SKT174 (1319)
102937 2002-12-04 05:56:00 Thanks to all who replied. I have decided to: upgrade processor plus add another card (more than likely ti series), both post xmas with sales, new cards etc.
Thanks again everyone - have a great Christmas.
