2002-12-03 00:33:00 | Also, we need to know more information about the motherboard and the CD ROM drive. A lot of earlier models needed specific soundcards in order to work. | crozier (2004) | |
2002-12-03 00:34:00 | Is your CDROM one of those old proprietory ones that needs to be connected to a sound card type or just an IDE type? | SKT174 (1319) | |

2002-12-03 00:39:00 | you need a generic driver. Use OAKCDROM.SYS from the link below www.cdrom-drivers.com And download mscdex.exe from the web, if you don't have it on an old DOS disk Just look under Google for MSCDEX, you will find all the info on setting it up that you need

2002-12-03 01:44:00 | Use the search on this page for "CDGod". That will get you a link for CD God ... a bootable floppy which will get a CD going on your machine. (Or search google with the brand and model and "driver") Basically, if your CD drive has a 3-position jumper on the back between the power connector and a 40 pin connector it is an IDE one. If it has a 4-position jumper, it is likely to be a proprietary interface. If it has a 50 position interface connector it's a SCSI. An IDE: just select "SL" and put it on the spare connector. SCSI: ... a bit more involved. Proprietary: if it's a Panasonic 563b it's the Creative interface and needs an early SB soundcard (or the wee card which was distributed with the drives ... PC General used to sell them, but PC General are no longer with us :-( )

2002-12-03 03:43:00 | Want to install W95. Hard disk has been formatted but as above can't get the Cd to be recognized. HD is master and CD Rom is slave connected to I/O card in an ISA slot (if this helps)

2002-12-03 03:58:00 | It needs to recognise it under dos, you will need MSCDEX and the OAK driver as above. The reference to MSCDEX (as per google) needs to be in your config.sys file under DOS. | godfather (25) | |
