102795 2002-12-04 22:08:00 The beauty of the new ones is the warranty - don't get that from purchases from trademe.................. Chris Randal (521)
102796 2002-12-04 22:18:00 Chris, the brand name computers (such as Hyundai) are ideal for the application you need.
Sure, they will not play the latest and greatest graphics intensive games, but will handle most they need to use.
The major advantage, and the one that ironically attracts the most critiscism from forums like these, is that the makers have deliberately limited the amount of "tweaking" that a user can do, mainly by removing option from the BIOS setup. Sure, this can limit the expandability to a small extent, but thats not uually an issue.

The motive is real, it reduces the call traffic to service desks, as users don't get into trouble as much, through their own fiddling.

Truth is, these units often turn out to be very reliable because of this. Hardware is also chosen deliberately to be compatable and reliable for the same reason.

also you dont need a warranty if you can find yourself an friendly PC guru who can help you with upgrades and software trouble shooting etc ithe main thing is to buy a decent PC in the 1st place with seperate components there are heaps of good online sites as well that will deliver to your door if you really want a warranty.

You do not pay labour on warranty repairs, nor can you be asked to.

You need only pay labour when the fault is something you did, like introducing a virus or adding new (incompatible) software or hardware.

I acknowledge that it can be difficult to determine the cause of computer problems but provided you haven't done something stupid the dealer must repair without charge and that includes peculiar software faults or incompatibilities if that is what you were sold.

Too many traders try to opt out of their warranty obligations, but they can only succeed if we let them.

I don't.

All machines under warranty are labour free. Some companies even offer 2 years parts and 5 years labour free warranty.

What happens when one of the component dies?
