I have a 17" Hyundai monitor which is excellent, and Hyundai automotive and heavy industrial products are highly respected. Maybe the early Hyundai Excel cars were a bit heavy & underpowered but they lasted well and their modern vehicles enjoy a very good reputation for quality and value for money.

I'm inclined to think that any computer that they put their name to would be solid and reliable, even if not particulary exciting.

I'll watch this space. :D

Cheers

Did I ever mention that you can't run ANY games on a TNT2 graphics card? I didn't!
I used to have an old TNT2 M64 32MB graphics card. Worked fine with older games but latest games like Aquanox demo was very painful* to play.

I couldn't play much games in 32-bit resolution because the FPS came down VERY low if I used 32-bit.
With no support of FSAA (Making Jagged images smoother) and Antistropic Filtering (Making far-away textures look more clear), I decided to go out and actually get a new machine with GeForce4 TI 4200 graphics card (because my previous machine was 4 years old anyway). Games now run smoothly with high FPS and I can now play 3D games at 1024x768x32 with 2x FSAA and Antistropic Filtering on.

If you have children, you know they will want to play games on the PC. Getting a nice and/or fast graphics card will enable children to play the latest games easily.

As I mentined before:
For maximum 3D technology compatability: nVIDIA GeForce4 TI/GeForceFX
OR
ATI Radeon 9700

For fast FPS** but slightly older 3D Technology: nVIDIA GeForce4MX series

*= Really low Frames per second like 6FPS
**=Frames per second

No, but almost - you said:

>>If you plan to play ANY modern 3D game

And I said that I'd had no problems running 3d games on my machine. :) and I stuck my tongue out :p

>>> If you have children, you know they will want to play games on the PC.

I have a child, but she's still a little young to be playing games... and if she were old enough, she'd have to fight off her father ;)

:D

102789 2002-12-04 00:46:00 The only place I've heard of that sell Hyundi computers is Farmers. If I remember rightly Farmers stopped selling PCs about 10 years ago partly because they lacked the technical expertise to support then. Over the past year or so they've tried the PC Company and now Hyundi (and I think another brand).

Looking around Farmers PC section in Cuba Mall and asking a few questions, I would wonder whether they have the expertise that they lacked all that time ago.

But if you look at it that way, do the salespeople at DSE, Noel Leemings, Harvey Norman, and even some PC Company stores have the expertise?

Perhaps not, but I was addressing my observations to the subject of this discussion which is about Hyundi and Farmers. I guess the subject of non-technical sales staff in a technical area would be a never ending discussion. I trained people in sales for a long time and one thing I drummed into them was that you don't have to know everything about what you sell - but have to know where to fnd everything out.

102792 2002-12-04 20:44:00 Thanks for all your help folks.

My sister-in-law is thinking of buying one - they'll use it mainly for simple games/ WP etc so it should be OK.

At those prices, one has to check.....

In that case I would check out the Compaq range at Dick Smiths or Bond and Bond. Their prices seem simuilar to the Hyundi range, but with a proven track record and good help desk support. For beginners, their range has all they need.
