| 102717 | 2002-12-02 09:47:00 | For no apparent reason, during an Outlook Express V5 session reading my e-mail, I was advised the program had not earlier closed correctly and my inbox was being (auto) checked for errors. It ended up visually totally empty with no file content whatsoever. I know it had a considerable number of messages in it, and using W98SE Internet Explorer I located the inbox file which by its size confirms it still holds the messages that "vanished". I have saved this file. My question ... how do I get my inbox messages back? | razzz (2672) | ||

I suggest you download and run the DBXtract (www.oehelp.com) program which can recover email messages from corrupted IE5/6 files. I've used this program myself and can recommend it. Cheers, and good luck! |

You can also create message rules to do this automatically if you wish. I have had a virus trash my Inbox and lost everything in there. Once bitten, twice shy. |

Your DBXtract suggestion Rod worked like a charm and the site for the download (www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx) also contained a lot of helpful info on the likely cause of the proble. Such also endorses Susan's suggestion of keeping valuable mail out of the main folders like Inbox. Mark this problem down as a victory by the good guys over Microsoft! | razzz (2672) | ||
