103108 2002-12-03 23:10:00 What is the best free software for making Internet calls? Phone4free doesn't seem to be available at the moment. Beaver (1902)
103109 2002-12-03 23:48:00 Do you mean PC-to-PC calls or PC-to-phone calls?
For PC-to-phone calls, I don't think there is any free provider left but for PC-to-PC calls, you can try free software like
- MSN/Windows Messenger
http://messenger.xtramsn.co.nz

- Paltalk

103110 2002-12-04 00:49:00 I posted a link on this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) a while ago... It might be useful.

BTW did you get the PC to MAC thing to work Baldy?

Cheers

103111 2002-12-04 20:47:00 I was hoping for PC-to-Phone but I think you're right that there's nothing free available now.

My next choice was PC-to-PC with software that has a realistic interface. Found MediaRingTalk which won't allow me to finish the registration process for some reason and Meyoo which looks very nice but is beta and will prorbably end up as a paid version. Still open to further suggestions. Otherwise will probably settle for Microsoft Messenger as PalTalk doesn't seem to offer any superior features.

103112 2002-12-04 21:39:00 I tried mediaring talk, same problems. I'm actually looking into PalTalk, it looks quite good. Chilling_Silence (9)
103113 2002-12-05 06:07:00 May I suggest Trillian then. Trillian 0.73 is on this months PCWorld CD, and can interface with MSN, ICQ, IRC, AIM, and YAHOO. This means you can talk to alot of people/friends even if they use different Chat Progs. It seems to be an unlimited trial version, but I've had no troubles - so no need to purchase.
:)
I'm pretty sure it is OPEN-SOURCE too. It will work on any OS you like, and has an extreme amount of :p:):DB)X(

103114 2002-12-05 06:21:00 Phonefree is another which works ok, but it didnt seem any better than Netmeeting as regards quality when there is net congestion or limited bandwidth when we tried it out.
