103713 2002-12-06 07:27:00 My hard drive died recently. Since having a new one installed the dial-up connection appears on booting up. Only the original software had been re-installed. Unsure where to look to turn it off. I'm running 98SE. Would appreciate any help or comments. Thanks. HP65 (2680)
103714 2002-12-06 08:17:00 Hi HP65
Not sure if this will work but go to Internet options in the control panel. Click on the conections tab and make sure "Always dial my default connection is NOT selected.

I have the same startup problem, and I cannot find the cause. But the fix above stops browsers dialling out .......

103716 2002-12-07 09:39:00 I should add that the dialup does just that - no browser or Email. Having played around with the Startup dir, I find that it only happens with Zone alarm activated. I see nothing in ZA which could cause this. Puzzle. TonyF (246)
103717 2002-12-07 09:43:00 There are known issues (and no resolution as far as I know) with Zone Alarm "phoning home"

Try a different firewall.

103718 2002-12-07 10:11:00 On ZA ver3 it defaults to checking for updates automatically which no doubt means at startup. Go to Overview and check Manual rather than Automatic. linw (53)

Thanks, but I was on manual. Good try. Other tries welcome !!
For Godfather - had a look on Google - 1003 responses to ZA dialing home, but all about how ZA defeats this !
Cheers

103720 2002-12-07 10:22:00 I have the same problem happening on a puter, it too is running win 98se and has Zone Alarm installed. Almost every time the puter starts up the dial up connection appears, no IE5 window, no e-mail window, just the dial up. As i make a practice of never saving passwords it cannot connect. However i too would love to know what is causing this nuisance problem. (I may try changing the firewall on it, as suggested above to see if it makes any difference).

103721 2002-12-07 17:23:00 probably done it already but have you run ad aware to check you don't have any spyware that's dialling out? XOtagoScarfie (1619)

Ad Aware 5.83 says all clear..................
