2002-12-06 06:54:00 | Hi, I've got my PC all up and running in its $860 worth of glory, only thing is the BIOS is picking up the AMD 1700+ CPU as 1.1Ghz, and I know its higher. What are the two settings, multiplier and something else, that I've gotta change in the BIOS to make it work at its full speed (Which I'd appreciate being refreshed on too). In the mean time, I'm not doing it any damage by running at 3/4ish speed am I? Cheers A VERY happe :D Chilling_Silence

2002-12-06 07:44:00 | No damage, its "idling along" What is the FSB frequency and multiplier? clock speed of a 1700+ is 1,467 Mhz FSB x Multiplier = 1,467 (or in your case 1,100) Make sure the FSB matches your RAM and change the multiplier?

2002-12-06 08:34:00 | YOu're running the FSB at 100MHz at the moment. 100 * 11 = 1100 MHz (1.1GHz).] should be 133 * 11 = 1466.6666667 (you get the picture). THere should be a bios setting or a jumper on the mobo for this. Ofcourse after a wee while you'l be bumping that FSB up some more ;)

2002-12-06 09:46:00 | Oh and grab yourself WCPUID (www.h-oda.com/) and possibly some of these (http:) | -=JM=- (16) | |
2002-12-06 20:13:00 | Okay, Thank for that, I've downloaded those programs and i'll check in the BIOS later on. Its not harming it is it.. just sowing it down in the mean time. I'll post back if I cant figure it out. Thanks guys Chilling_Silence

2002-12-07 06:36:00 | There should be a jumper, dipswitch, or BIOS setting for it. So tell us what sort of mobo it is and we may be able to help some more. There is no harm being done by running it at the current speed. It's now running slower so there is less heat. It's known as underclocking.

| 103712 | 2002-12-07 07:45:00 | Punching in K7S5A into Google.co.nz brought up my M/Board, only I dont have onboard LAN. I checked the BIOS setup walk-thru in the manual and it was there.. Turns out that the RAM frequency settings also controls the CPU settings, so speeding up the RAM setting in the BIOS made it pick it up as an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Immediately! Thanks guys!
