| 103674 | 2002-12-06 05:53:00 | hi, even though i moved to japan, i still follow pressf1. that said, i need a little help. i got myself a new cpu over here and intel provided an adequate heatsink/fan (as i'm not gonna overclock this sucker). however they use that stupid tape which has little gaps in it. i have some arctic 3 thermal compound i wanna use. what is good to use to remover the tape from BOTH the cpu and the heatsink - naturally i don't wanna damage anything. how fragile is the top of the cpu anyway...? thanks, dan |

| 103676 | 2002-12-06 07:22:00 | I have found a hairdryer will soften the tape/pad. I then use a piece of thin plastic to scrape it off. Why is it on the top of the CPU? Have you been running the system with the pad in place already? The crown of the CPU is very sturdy, however the rest of the top of the CPU may contain very minute bridges, and also fine tracks from the pins to the silicon which are both fragile |
