103702 2002-12-06 05:20:00 I got this out today to have a look ( afriend gave it to me last year as they were throwing them out at his work) - and yes this is the last puter I possess:)

everything looks good it boots up, runs scan (as it detected improper shutdown) passes that but when it goes from the Win 95 screen (perfectly good monitor image) to the desktop the on screen image is unreadable - it is banded in about 6 vertical columns, one can just see the outlines of the various icons yet they and the mouse arrow are all repeated across the screen (it's repeating the same band - so ther're 6 IExplorer icons, 6 mouse arrows etc etc)

is the program corrupt?

the monitor seems fine...

any ideas

thanks

103703 2002-12-06 05:27:00 The display properties are set above that which the monitor can handle, in all probability.

The win 95 splash screen is 640 x 480, and you say thats fine.

Start up in safe mode and right click on the desktop, select properties ans set the display to 640 x 480, or 800 x 600 (try it at the lower one first). Then reboot.

103704 2002-12-06 08:50:00 Thanks very much Godfather (you deserve the moniker) did what you said and it works fine

actually it is a very fine machine and looks like it was in used up to 1999 (it's NAV is updated to there at any rate)- it has Microsoft words 97 (I'd never heard of that before)

Indeed they couldn't get rid of them - I took it last year - and already having a new PC thought I might be able to give it away to family - cept no-one wanted it!!!

I'd never really used 95 - but though not hugely different to ME which I know best - for a 486 this machine whizzes along - still no luck with the 486 IPC laptop though but I''m having fun mucking around with it

thanks again Godfather

cheers
