2002-12-05 20:18:00 | Hey, our laptop has a pretty bad overheating problem. It has one fan in the back, and maybe one on the CPU I'm not sure, but it gets really hot and whenever you take a CD out of the drive it seems a lot hotter than it should be. Is this a bad thing? and is there anything we can do to cool it down? | tango (2697) | |
2002-12-05 21:04:00 | Which model of Apple Powerbook is it? Or perhaps it is a notebook running Windows? Or.... You really do need to give some hints, to get valid assistance. If it was an older slower laptop, there could indeed be a problem If its a later one with a desktop P4 chip in it, this may be an expected event? Make, model, has it always got hot, does it only get hot after playing games on it....

2002-12-06 01:23:00 | it's a Compaq Presario, running an amd 450mhz chip, 64mb ram, 5400rpm hdd, running windows 98. It has always gotten hot, I've only just really started worrying about it because I've used other laptops which don't heat anywhere near as much as ours. | tango (2697) | |
2002-12-06 01:32:00 | I run a Tohiba 600 MHz Celeron based laptop, and the fan probably runs 50% or less of the time. It gets quite warm underneath but not hot. AMD run hotter than Intel, but I would suspect the 450 AMD to be close to the 600 Celeron for heat. CD is barely warm. This is running normal office apps, if I was to run graphics intensive games it may be a different story? Does the fan run continuously on yours?

2002-12-06 03:00:00 | I have used a Compaq AMD 450 laptop before and it ran quite hot too. Must be the way it is :) | CYaBro (73) | |
