103864 2002-12-06 22:32:00 Does anyone know where I can find information on UV screen filters? I've looked on Dick Smith Electronics, Noel Leemings and Harvey Norman's website for one but cannot find it. I need it for part of ann assessment on ergonomics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

103866 2002-12-06 22:54:00 Do you mean Ultra Violet light filters or magnetig radiation filter screens. If you do a search for either on google, you should come up with something.

103867 2002-12-06 22:58:00 I tried that... no help.

I'm meaning the anti-glare screen guards but they filter UV light instead of blocking the glare. I've got a whole heap of information about the anti-glare screen guards, but now I need information about the UV screen guards. All the computer shops I went to had some sort of UV screen guard, but no information on them.

Any help is appreciated.

103869 2002-12-07 03:09:00 BTW, Wintertide

Almost any glass screen will filter UV, some slightly better than others, but there is negligible UV radiated from a computer screen and the principal purpose of glare guards is not to stop glare from the screen either.

They have two main uses:

1) To stop external light sources reflecting/ with the screen image and in doing so, they enhance the contrast of the image,

and

2) Stopping electrostatic and scanning voltage fields from radiating toward the user. Of these, the static voltage derived from the high voltage used to accelerate and focus the scanning electron beam is the most problematic as it will repel like-charged dirt and dust particles toward the user (you) and attract opposite-charged particles, hence the build up of a film of dirt over the outside of most PC monitors.

They will only perform this function efectively if the flying lead is grounded to earthed metal. Keyboard trays metal paper clip holders and various other items of desktop detritus will not serve.

Metal fan grilles at the rear of the PC or female screw connectors for unused ports are good too as they are usually earthed.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Cheers
