| 103841 | 2002-12-07 03:40:00 | I gave up trying to install and get TCP/IP working properly on a 2 computer Win98SE network. There are a number of guru websites that say it can be very difficult, if not impossible!!!!!!! One site suggested that the order in which the devices and protocolls were installed was important, like leave dial up adapter to last, but that didnt work either. All the proper things were done with the correct IP addresses and sub-mask etc etc according to the book. Just gave up and stuck with NetBui for file sharing. I did achieve a ping to the client computer first time around but not the other way. From then it went from bad to worse as I fiddled and fiddled :( Yet one of my sons using Win95 and either 2 or 3 machines has it working a breeze. If you find the secret let us know! |

No hardware faults at the physical level? Using UTP or Coax? Coax is terminated? DHCP is disabled? WINS is not used? No DNS Server entries? Tested at DOS level? |

| 103845 | 2002-12-07 21:53:00 | If you find the secret let us know! Watch this space!!! I did have my computer into a service engineer on Friday who loaded Win98SE onto a new temporary drive and it worked fine! I was instructed to go home and and reinstall W98 but this gave no joy at all. Also downloaded new drivers for the card no joy. Interestingly enough we tried the card in another slot on the mother board and it improved the constant output markedly (ping -t 102.168.10.3) |

| 103848 | 2002-12-07 22:01:00 | Recap You cannot ping the machine from other clients. Using Windows Exporer you can accessed shared resources from other clients. |
