104339 2002-12-09 00:05:00 hi my computer has got it into its mind to only start in safe mode it most annoying has any one got any fixes besides shooting it thanks ian farmdude52 (2056)
104340 2002-12-09 00:27:00 What OS are you running?

Oh, Yeah, If you've got a nearby window, that can be more thrilling than simply shooting it at times :D

Did you install anything before this happened, only to find that ext time you rebooted it did this?

104341 2002-12-09 04:59:00 hi chilling i live on the groud floor so not much fun . after major promlem i had to reboot the system it worked alright until it froze this morning then only starts in safe mode regards ian farmdude52 (2056)
104342 2002-12-09 06:52:00 Could be any number of reasons which could be hardware or software .

If it is Hardware related it might show up in Device Manager which can be reached via My Computer > Right click once > Properties > Device Manager > look for any yellow ! and / or ? against any of the hardware, that could/would indicate a hardware conflict or driver problem .

Software ? could be a corrupted program in the start up .

To see what is running if you have 98 to ME, go Start > Run > type in msconfig > Enter > select the startup tab and see what is ticked and therefore loading at startup .

A good list of startup programs and there uses can be found at

. pacs-portal . co . uk/startup_pages/startup_full . htm" target="_blank">www . pacs-portal . co . uk

. answersthatwork . com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_m . htm" target="_blank">www . answersthatwork . com

Could be something in here that has packed a sad . If you can access this in safe mode then remove the ticks from anything that does not need to be in the startup and Apply/Ok and restart . See if that helps .

104343 2002-12-09 06:54:00 You don't mention what the major problem was, could be related to that as well.

Last resort would be a reformat and reinstall Windows but if it is giving you that much trouble it would be a idea worth considering.

Remember to back up what you can and have all the required disks and drivers handy if you do.

104344 2002-12-09 07:05:00 mmmmmmmm i don't think the computer is constantly starting in safe mode, more like your computer is starting with only 16 colours.
You know if its safemode as it has safe mode written around the edges of the screen. Is this there constantly when you start your computer?

104345 2002-12-09 08:01:00 Hey there, i was having a chat to a friend of mine and mentioned your problem, to cut a long story short he gave me this link to pass on to you. It is however only applicable to Win98 and Win98SE.
