I brought a few games the other day....upwords/boogle/rubiks games etc...and have just learnt that they can be played over a network either home or modem.....but to be able to play the game, u gotta have the cd...both ends..and as i am unkeen on buying another set of the games...and only want to copy 2 of the 6 games...How do i do it? as I have a cdrw/dvd combo drive...winxphome...and as i know many of u use nero5...i can download that to use if i have 2...but i have prassiprimo dvd...which is a cdwriting program...

Hope someone can help...

I know that copying cds is illegal, but i really beleive its alright for "personal" use not, profits or sharing around...so i hope someone can help me here...

But using those copies on another computer is illegal unless the EULA specifies this is OK. There is some software which allows for multiple installation such as on you laptop and desktop computers but in this case you're not supposed to use both at the same time.

To make your own backup copies of your own software there are various programs available. Check out the software that came with your CD writer, you'll probably have Easy CD Creator or Ahead Nero Burning ROM. Either of which will do the job.

You could image the cds (using a program liek clonecd) and then, just put this image onto the other PC (transfer across network) and use a "virtual cdrom" program (daemon tools is good) and run the images, with this, u don't have to put the cdrom in.
anyway, its probobly easier to make backups of them....

104308 2002-12-09 01:21:00 On a slightly different slant, I don't make backup copies of my game CDs (legitimately purchased of course). After playing on CFS, Ghost Recon, CIV etc etc for a few months I begin to notice scratches on my CDs. Fearing the worst, I get the NO-CD cracks from "Game Copy World" site and my originals are tucked safely back into their boxes until I have to reformat my PC again. Game play improves a lot too without having to refer to CDs. However in your case, you are wanting to play on two PCs so ethically you need to purchase another copy. nzStan (440)
104309 2002-12-09 05:13:00 Use CloneCD to make an image of the disc which you then burn the image to another disc. Using CloneCD will ensure you will be able to use your copies as it reads around most copy protection schemes.

As to us new zealanders being allowed to make a copy for backup. I am afraid that only applies in the US and we are not allowed to make any sort of copy for any reason whatsoever in this country. This is so stupid that we should all just ignore it and make backup copies if we want to as having paid a fortune for software distributed on a format that is easily damaged I believe you would be seriously stupid not to back it up.

104310 2002-12-09 05:23:00 is that right?
i have has beleived (and told many people) that you are allowed to make a backup of your cd's
Nearly ALL (music, games, software) of my cds are backed up. I will just have to hope the copy protectionn guys don't come to my house!

104311 2002-12-09 07:22:00 Hey

Just a word of advice for the networking side of it:
Some old games (and even some new ones - like Counter Strike) use the IPX/SPX protocol for gaming as compared to TCP/IP (counter-strike will go to TCP/IP if IPX isn't found)

So if your games aren't "multiplaying" properly try installing IPX/SPX (It's a Microsoft Component in Network Control Panel i think)
