2002-12-08 21:39:00 | Hi gamers. Mrs Badly wants to buy the boys an Xbox or PS2 for xmas. Can the gamers out there tell her which is best in terms of quality, games, power, versatility etc. Or point her to a website with a comparison of the two. Your opinions would be most appreciated. Thanks

2002-12-08 22:11:00 | Personally I would opt for PS2 but that's personal opinion and not meant to offend any other game condsole owners :) To me, XBox is just a PC cramped into a smaller box (which is not so small when u look at it :O ) if I've a PC then XBox won't be an option for me. Oh... Microsoft can't produce a bug free software since day one so I wonder when will the patches for XBox be available :P Stats : XBox has sold 4 million since Nov 2001 launch and PS2 which launched a year earlier has sold 40 million . Reviews (www.consolewar.com) between the two Cheers

If you have a PC already it probably isn't worth splashing out on a console when you have a perfectly fine machine. Get a video card upgrade, a DVD-Rom and a new 19" monitor instead :D | honeylaser (814) | ||
2002-12-08 22:27:00 | Personally, I've spent Many hours on a PS2, and possibly 20 on the XBox and can say that I'd go with the XBox no doubt about it. You may wanna wait for Scott B to post on this, as he plays the XBox "During lunch hours".. Yeah right, but he'll have something good to say about them :D If you really want the wider variety of games, then go PS2, but otherwise, If you're not gonna be buying a new game every week, then you'll be fine with XBox's selection of games that is growing fast! | 104295 | 2002-12-08 22:38:00 | Thanks for your thoughts guys. The 3 wee Badlys already have a PC each. Duron 1200MHz, 20GB, 256MB SD, 64MB Radeon, 17" Viewsonic Thunderbird 900MHz, 40BG, 512MB SD, 32MB TnT 17" Viewsonic Celeron 400MHz, 10GB, 256 SD, G200 Matrox, 15" Philips PS One with countless games. Running in a 100Mb network. A bit excessive I know but it was the only way to keep them off mine!! (Also I can get gear at the right price & build them myself) They all use the PC's for other than gaming, they are all into site building, flash etc & all use them a lot for homework/projects I know about building PC's etc but don't play games, so this is why I am asking for your opinions & I'm that busy just now I haven't got the time to do any proper research on the subject. As far as I'm concerned they don't need anything else, but according to them the PC's in different rooms isn't the same as being crowded round a TV screen. (it's pretty obvious I had a deprived childhood without all this gear) Add to that Mrs Badly wants me to buy her a DVD player I thought I could kill two birds with one stone. Are PS2 & Xbox ok for playing DVD or is a dedicated DVD player better? Thanks

2002-12-08 22:40:00 | Well.. The PS2 is backwards compatible with PSX/PS1 so it may be a good idea.. but then again.. something new for the kiddies... :D I guess this isnt really helping ;)

2002-12-08 23:11:00 | Have played both and found the Xbox the better of the two. I ended up buying the PS2 however as i found that the difference was minimal and the fact that more people i know own PS2's, that way we can swap games. Games are to expensive to build a decent collection. :( Cheers Veale

2002-12-08 23:27:00 | With DVD players you get what you pay for, of course. The XBox has a reasonable set of specs (which will be comparable to a $200 DVD player) however it will pale in comparison to a $600 DVD player. Shop around, decide what matters to you. Remember, XBoxen are _loud_! :)

2002-12-09 01:43:00 | > So their PS One games will run ok on PS2? > Will their PS One backups also run ok on PS2 or would > it need to be chipped? Yes, the PS 2 will have to be modified with a chip to play the pirate :D*cough*:D i mean backup:D versions of the psx games . PS2 is worth every $ u spend for it . Why not also buy games for ur self like GTA 3 and GTA Vice City for the ps2, so u can also enjoy the benefits of the ps2 . cheers, v . K
