104052 2002-12-07 20:36:00 I want to backup some directories of my HD - including the 'Documents & Settings' directory in Windows. However the program (Nero) always finds that some files are open (NTUSER) and hence disallows the copy process - even though I have no other programmes running. How can I get around this? I'm running the Nero CD Burn software under XP.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

104053 2002-12-07 20:53:00 NTUSER will always be used by windows .. so u have 3 options

1. Don't backup any opened files

2. Take your HDD and install to another XP machine as slave and backup from there.

3. Use Ghost

Cheers

104054 2002-12-07 23:03:00 Use the Windows backup utility (Start/ All programs/ Accessories/ System tools) to create the backup file and then copy the file to CD-RW.
Backup is not installed by default in XP Home but can be installed from your Windows CD.

104055 2002-12-08 00:26:00 Hi Davesdad

Thanks for the advice - but I don't have the backup utility installed and there's no sign of it on the XP disk .... any ideas?

Thanks
